New Horizon is a lovely wooden Tallship. She is one of the last solid timber boats, built in Tasmania with famous Tasmanian hard wood, which makes her a strong, seaworthy boat. New Horizon has beautiful features like a human size figurehead. She is very spacious and has a lovely wooden galley with a big half-round table for entertainment.
The boat is newly re-constructed and only started taking its first passengers in June 2001. This trip guarantees classical sailing in style and offers as well excellent snorkelling and diving.
The Snorkelling:
New Horizon offers its guests excellent snorkelling opportunities on its cruises in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Snorkel the amazing coral reef and see a vast variety of colourful tropical fish in the clear blue waters. The Whitsunday Islands are a great place for snorkelling, as the coral of the fringing reef around the islands lies in very shallow waters. You can snorkel directly off the beach and see the fascinating marine life close up. No experience is necessary. Free lessons from a qualified instructor are available and mask, snorkel and fins are provided free of charge.
The Diving:
New Horizon has on board dive gear offering every passenger the opportunity to try Scuba Diving on board!! We would like to introduce as many people as possible to the amazing underwater world and share our passion with you. Diving packages are available from $55.00 per dive
New Horizon visits the best diving locations in the Whitsunday Islands, like Blue Pearl Bay of Hayman Island, Luncheon Bay of Hook Island and Bali Hai. There you will see some of the best coral and fish in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Explore coral drop-off's, swim throughs and bommies. Dolphins, whales, manta rays, turtles and a vast variety of tropical fish may be seen.
Introductory dives are a great way of trying scuba diving for the first time. No experience is necessary. Your instructor will first explain the theory and then do some practical exercises with you in waist deep water off the beach before taking you down. By then you will be so relaxed that you can fully enjoy diving between the coral and the fish. This is an experience that shouldn't be missed.
New Horizon is a fully equipped dive boat. They cater for all the needs of the diver, either the certified or the novice. Every boat has one or two dive instructors onboard. All our staff is well qualified and our company operates within all the guidelines of Workplace Health & Safety, as the safety of our clients is very important to us.
