Hook Passage

General information
Hook Passage - Whitsundays. Found between Whitsunday Island and Hook Island is the narrow stretch of water opposite Hook Island Resort, known as Hook Passage.
Due to the narrowness of the gap between the islands and the large tides sometimes experienced in the Whitsundays (Up to 4m), the sea can rush through here and set up eddies and small, but steep waves. Hook Island Resort is located here as well on the Hook Island side of the passage.
Good anchorage can be found at Scrub Hen Beach, just south of the passage. The anchorage is often used by overnight crewed charter vessels as a jump off point for Whitehaven Beach early the next day. The reef does extend some way off the Beach here, don't go any closer than about 8m LWS as the reef is difficult to see when the water is murky or disturbed.
